Aroha 6: Kia Kaha Christchurch !!!

In support of our Muslim community and whanau near or far. Our Aroha goes out to you all. Kotahitanga! Together we stand as one!
Kia Kaha!!!

This week we have revisited our school lock down procedures ensuring everyone is aware of our safety procedures. Lockdowns are an important part of school safety.

Furthermore we have had a special school assembly lead by Mr Naidoo introducing a  message from our Prime Minister explaining the tragic events that took place in Christchurch.
Along with our Rowandale community will stand strong and support those that have been affected.

In support of the Paper Doll project our Rowandale whanau supported this kaupapa by sending our paper dolls chains to Christchurch to form a single line colourful chain representing harmony between cultures.

Team Aroha: Room 6: It is swimming time. Wahoo!!!

In support of physical education and health, every even week from 1.45pm to 2.15pm,  Aroha 6 are provided the learning opportunity to explore and gain confidence and competence in the pool environment.
Today a few of Aroha 1 learners excitedly joined us. It is always an awesome feeling building on our tuakana teina relationships.  Together we learnt to follow simple instructions about pool safety such as learning the Rowandale pool rules and how to enter and exit the pool safely using the ladder.   Followed by slowly walking alongside the edges and hanging onto the rails inside the pool.  We sure had a lot of fun learning alongside each other including submersion and breath control through the surface.  We definitely can't wait for our next swimming sessions...

Team Aroha: Room 6: Nau mai Haere mai Welcome back!!!

Nau mai, Haere mai, Nga Mihinui, TenĂ¢ kotou katoa. Talofa lava, Malo e lelei, Kia orana, Nisa bula vinaka, Taloha ni, Fakalofa lahi atu, Ni hao, Namaste, and Warm greetings to you all.

Talofa lava, my name is Whaea Rose, and I am very excited to be a part of your child’s learning journey this year in Aroha 6, and being part of this amazing passionate team here at Rowandale School. It is always so great to see children eagerly returning to school. Their enthusiasm for learning is a joy to see. I look forward to contributing to their learning and development in a fun, safe and stimulating way while building new relationships with your child and your whanau.

Here at Rowandale we have an open-door policy so please pop in to say hello or ask me any questions before or after school. If these times do not suit, please phone the office and make an appointment.

Uniform & Attendance: Please ensure that your child is at school every day and wearing the correct uniform when at school. All uniform items and any materials / equipment of their own, need to be clearly named with their first and last name.

Lunches: We are proud to be a healthy eating school so thank you for ensuring your child has a healthy morning tea and lunch on a daily basis.

Homework expectations: A reading book and spelling list will be brought home each night in separate notebooks to read with their parents/ guardians or whanau.  Please ensure to have both books signed off once completed, and feel free to provide feedback. Reading at home will reinforce your child’s learning at school, so we will appreciate your support with this. All books must be returned to school the next day in your child’s book bag.

Poetry is part of our reading programme.  Your child will also bring home their poetry book and a reader on a Friday. After reading the poem together, they will need to put the poetry book back in their book bag and return it to school on the Monday.

I look forward to working together with you to ensure with Aroha and Rowandale PRIDE we Empower, Encourage, Engage and Nurture each other along our journey towards GROWING OUR PEOPLE!

Nga mihi nui

Whaea Rose
